Pictured here are Bay City Black Cat Varsity Tennis Alumni: Nikki Craft, Sean Galle, Sam Chadwell, Bobby Lane, and Levi Morales. The generational team spanned from 1984 to 2009... That's alot of Black Cat Tennis History. The Black Cats won the Fall Alumni Team Challenge over Brazoswood, West Columbia, Angleton, and Sweeny alumni teams.

Nikki Craft still plays competitive tournaments in the USTA Texas section and is a top player in HTA leagues in Houston. Nikki won the women's singles competition and clinched the 2010 Fall team victory for the Black Cat Alumni.

Coach Sam and Sean teamed up for the first time and placed second in the mens doubles competition losing one match to the Brazoswood Alumni team of Gonzales-Manjul.

Fifty-Eight Participants took part in the 20th Annual USPTA's Tennis Across America Day at the Bayou Club in Angleton, Texas on May 9, 2009...!

The two hour event included instruction from USPTA Professional Samuel R Chadwell, along with drills, games, and other fun events including a fast serve contest. Click photo to enlarge.

Coach Charles Wright, who coaches the West Brazos Junior High tennis team, and Columbia High School soccer team volunteered his time on court to help organize the drills and games. Other volunteers included Tyler Kivi, Aaron Scott, and Jim Monts.

Christopher Corbett is another bright young tennis star from Coach Sam's Home School Tennis program in Brazoria County. Chris is really dedicating himself to being the best player he can be and can be found on the practice court multiple times a week these days.

Here's a photo of one of Chris' best shots, his backhand. He's showing great focus on the ball and good racquet preparation. You can see he's loaded his weight onto his back foot and is about to unload into his hit and follow through.

This photo shows Chris' finish of the swing with a definite unload to the front foot and nice extension on the follow-through of his swing. We'll definitely be hearing more about Chris in the future...!

Cody is one of Coach Sam's favorite students. He has earned the nick name 'Action Jackson' because he is so enthusiastic about tennis. Cody is very passionate about his tennis game and has a very competitive nature. At this stage in his tennis development Cody has unlimited potential.

Cody Jackson is an eighth grader at Wild Peach Christian School. He recently qualified for a national tennis competition for private Christian school athletes. Way to go, Cody...!

Ryan Sebesta is a freshman at Angleton High School and is a soon to be force to be reckoned with. This tall left-hander has been blessed with natural power and spin. He is the latest tennis star from a family that has a rich heritage of producing excellent tennis players.

Ryan's size and left-handed-ness gives him a significant advantage over his peers. But Ryan has the one ingredient that will make him more successful than anyone else. -And that's his drive and determination. When I coach Ryan I see a young man passionate about tennis and that gets me very excited and motivated to be a teacher and help him achieve his goals.

Ryan really wants to be the best he can be, and he's not afraid to work hard to achieve his goals. It's going to be a pleasure to sit back and see how Ryan's high school tennis career unfolds. This isn't the last time you'll see or hear about Ryan Sebesta.

USPTA Tennis Across America Fun Night

The Annual Tennis Fun Night at Columbia Lakes Country Club was held Friday, May 19 and hosted by USPTA Pros Sam Chadwell and Jeff Davidson. The plan was to invite a friend who hadn't played in a long time or who had never played before at all. The event drew nearly 30 particpants from local and surrounding areas. The first half of the program was spent playing fun, large group games. Next the groups split up into doubles and mixed doubles matches. After a couple of rounds of match play the evening was completed with a delicious grilled hot dog dinner. Everyone had a great time...!

John Adams is a sophomore at Angleton High School. He recently switched from the Wilson Tour 90 to the Babolat Storm. He plays an agressive game style and likes to work his way to the net to finish the point. Right now his agressive style has produced spotty results, but with consistent practice, hard work, and determination John will develope into a fine player. His serve is on the verge of becoming a major force and his ground strokes show great promise. An all court game style like John's takes a little more time to fine tune but this summer should be a big turning point for John.

Emily Dellinger is just finishing her 7th grade year at Angleton Junior High. She started taking lessons this year and has made a remarkable leap of improvement in a very short amount of time. Her hard work and dedication paid off this spring as she and partner Ryan Outterson won the 7th grade girl's doubles title at the end of the school season district tournament. She has recently started using the Babolat Aero Pro and loves it.

Emily has good ground strokes and volleys but is always striving to improve them. She is working very hard to improve her serve and is planning to start playing more singles tournaments this summer. She has a great attitude and a good work ethic. You will be hearing a lot about Emily in the future because she is definitely one the next rising tennis stars from this area...!

Josh Sebesta is a sophomore (soon to be junior) at Angleton High School. His game is really starting to blossom. He was semi finalist at the Golfcrest Country Club Junior Gran Prix recently. Josh works part time at Columbia Lakes Country Club in the pro-shop and plans to log in lots of time on the practice courts this summer. I predict a big summer for Josh and a great high school season when he returns to school in the fall.

Oh Yes, Josh plays with the new Andy Roddick Pure Drive. We are proud to have Josh on the Columbia Lakes Country Club Babolat Travel Team..!

Jim Lansford is a sophomore at Alvin High School. He switched to the Babolat Pure Drive back in October, 2005. He plays right handed, is developing solid ground strokes, and can handle himself pretty well at the net, too. Jim takes private lessons from Coach Sam and particpates in weekend drills and programs. He has just started playing ZAT tournaments and is doing everything he can to be the best he can be. His hard work and dedication is inspiring. He is a solid performer. Kathy DiBlasi is a member at Columbia Lakes Country Club and switched from her old Wilson racquet to the Babolat Aero Pro at the beginning of 2006. She plays right handed and has great volleys and punishing ground strokes. Tennis is a very important part of her life!

Ron Welborn of Bay City has an unusual serving style that un-nerves his opponents. He stands facing away from the court then tosses, turns, and spins into his motion making his delivery placement virtually undetectable. He and Kayin Rice were undefeated the entire team tennis season and had a perfect 5-0 record.

Stephen Davis of Lake Jackson won the individual competition for Junior High players in the Columbia Lakes League. Stephen will be an eighth grader when he goes back to school next week.

Jack Mclaughlin has been taking lessons in Coach Sam's home school program for several years now and is starting to play local area tournaments. He and his brother Daniel have a tournament this weekend. They are playing in the Houston Pro Tennis Association's Junior Gran Prix. Jack plays in the boys 12 and under division and Daniel plays in the Boy's 14 and under division. I am very proud of them for working hard on their games. There is no telling how good they will be if they really apply themselves. Best wishes in the tournament this weekend, Dan and Jack...!

Here's a photo of 'Coach Monica' and Melinda Mcnicoll at the tennis lesson baby shower a few weeks ago..! Monica is enjoying a delicious sno-cone prepared by Jennifer 'sno-wiz' Mcnicoll.

It was such a sweet morning... Thanks again to everyone who participated. (Thanks especially to Melinda for organizing it...) Monica and I were deeply moved to be honored in such a way...!

Well, today is the day...! We are heading to the hospital in a few minutes. The doctor has planned to induce labor starting at 5:30 AM.

The next time I make a photo post it will be of the newest, youngest tennis player in our home school community...

A couple of Fridays ago Monica and I were blessed with a baby shower given by my Friday morning tennis classes. It was such a touching gesture... I was moved to tears several times that morning. 'Warren' from Sweeny, Texas plays for the Sweeny Junior High Tennis Team and was a guest of Seth Myers, who plays for West Columbia High School. Warren and Seth are cousins.
